Managing Layers, Groups, and Selections
Rename, lock, hide, and reorder elements in Labeliy's Elements panel, select several elements at once to align them, group them, and use the right-click menu.
Once a label has more than a few elements, the Elements panel on the left helps you keep them organized. Every element on the canvas is listed there.
The Elements Panel#
Hover over an element in the list to see its actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Eye | Hide the element. A hidden element isn't drawn on the canvas or printed, but stays in your design. |
| Lock | Stop the element from being moved, resized, or rotated. You can still select it and change its content. |
| Copy | Duplicate the element |
| Trash | Delete the element |
- Rename an element by double-clicking its name. The name is only for you — it doesn't change anything on the label or in your data.
- Reorder by dragging a row up or down — on a phone or tablet, drag the grip (the six dots) at the left of the row. The list runs from back to front: the first element is behind everything, and the last one is in front.
Select Several Elements#
Drag a box around elements on the canvas, hold Shift and click to add to a selection, or press ⌘A (Ctrl + A) to select everything. Locked and hidden elements are left out.
With several elements selected, the panel on the right offers:
- Align — left, center, right, top, middle, bottom
- Distribute — spread three or more elements with equal gaps
- Group, Duplicate, Lock, Hide, Delete
You can also copy, paste, and delete the whole selection at once.
Groups#
Grouping keeps elements together: click any one of them and the whole group is selected, so they move, copy, and delete as one. Select two or more elements and click Group (or press ⌘G). To undo it, select the group and click Ungroup (⌘⇧G).
To work on just one element inside a group, Alt + click it. A small link icon in the Elements panel marks grouped elements.
The Right-Click Menu#
Right-click an element, a selection, or an empty part of the canvas — on a touch screen, press and hold instead — for quick actions: copy, paste, duplicate, delete, bring forward or send backward, lock, hide, and group. Right-clicking a table adds its row, column, and merge actions.
Snap to Grid#
The grid button in the zoom controls (bottom of the canvas) turns on snapping. While it's on, a faint grid appears on your label and elements snap to it as you drag, which makes it easy to line things up. The grid is only a guide — it never prints.
Elements Outside the Label#
The canvas around your label is a workspace. You can drag an element off the label and it stays visible there — handy for parking things while you design. Only what's on the label is printed. An element that hangs off the label — partly or completely — shows a warning triangle in the Elements panel, and the status bar at the bottom says so when it's selected.
