Designing a Label with AI

Instead of building a label element by element, you can describe what you want and let Labeliy's AI design it for you. The result lands on the same canvas as normal, fully editable elements — not a locked image — so everything covered in Adding Elements still applies afterward.

Opening AI Design#

In the editor's top bar, click AI. A chat panel opens on the right.

If you haven't picked a label sheet or size yet, do that first — the panel will ask you to before it can generate anything, since it needs to know your label's dimensions.

Writing a Prompt#

Describe your label the way you'd describe it to a person — mention what goes where. A few examples:

• "A shipping label with our logo in the top-left corner, the recipient's name and full mailing address centered below it, and a QR code linking to the tracking page in the bottom-right corner"
• "A product label with the brand name in large bold text at the top, the price in the top-right corner, and a barcode along the bottom edge"
• "An inventory label with the item name in bold at the top, the SKU number just below it, and a barcode at the bottom for warehouse scanning"

Tip: Mention at least one concrete piece of content — a logo, a barcode, a QR code, a price, or a SKU. A prompt that only describes a purpose ("a label for my bakery") without naming what should actually appear on it may get a clarifying question back instead of a design.

You can also click one of the sample prompt chips in the empty state to fill in the box, then edit it before sending.

Attaching an Image#

Click the image icon in the input box to attach a logo or reference image (up to a few images per message). The AI places it on the label based on where your prompt says it should go.

Uploaded images count against your account's image storage limit — 20 on the free plan, 500 on Pro — shared with any images you upload elsewhere in the editor.

Picking a Variant#

The AI replies with a few design variants as thumbnail cards. Click one to apply it to your canvas. If none are quite right, you don't have to start over — just describe the change:

• "Make it more colorful"
• "Try a bolder font"
• "Add a barcode"
• "Make the text bigger"

Each of these follow-up messages patches the existing design rather than regenerating it from scratch.

Keep Editing By Hand#

Once a variant is applied, it's a normal set of canvas elements. Click any text, shape, barcode, or image to select it and adjust it in the properties panel — same as anything you'd built manually. Turning on Dynamic Data for an AI-generated text element works exactly the same way too, so you can still bulk-print an AI-designed label from imported data.

AI Design Credits#

Every account gets 3 free AI designs to try, no credit card required. Once those are used, upgrading to Pro gives you 100 AI designs a month. Each message that generates a new set of variants uses one credit; asking for a follow-up tweak to an existing design does not start you over; a running credit count is shown at the top of the AI panel.
